In Chennai, a simple business website usually costs ₹8,000 to ₹25,000 as a one-time fee. A larger website with a blog and SEO setup costs ₹15,000 to ₹50,000, an online store ₹15,000 to ₹1,00,000 and a custom web application ₹50,000 and up. On top of that, budget ₹3,500 to ₹13,000 a year for hosting, domain and business email.
"How much will my website cost?" is the first question almost every business owner asks us. It is also the hardest one to get a straight answer to. One agency quotes ₹6,000, another quotes ₹60,000, and both are for "a business website".
This guide explains where that difference comes from. You will see typical price ranges in Chennai for 2026, the costs you keep paying after launch, the charges that are often hidden in quotes, and three example budgets for real kinds of businesses. By the end you will know what a fair price looks like for your website.
Website cost in Chennai at a glance
These are typical one-time prices for design and development in Chennai in 2026. They are approximate ranges based on the market, not fixed rates, and they do not include yearly costs such as hosting, which we cover further down.

| Type of website | Typical price in Chennai | Usually includes | Our price from |
|---|---|---|---|
| Landing page | ₹3,000 to ₹15,000 | One page for an offer or ad campaign, enquiry form, WhatsApp button | ₹2,999 |
| Small business website | ₹8,000 to ₹25,000 | Up to 5 pages, mobile-friendly design, contact form, basic SEO | ₹7,999 |
| Growth website with blog and SEO | ₹15,000 to ₹50,000 | 10 to 15 pages, custom design, blog, analytics, schema, speed tuning | ₹14,999 |
| E-commerce store | ₹15,000 to ₹1,00,000+ | Product catalogue, cart, UPI, cards and COD, shipping, invoices | ₹14,999 |
| Custom web application | ₹50,000 to ₹5,00,000+ | Logins, dashboards, bookings or portals built for your workflow | ₹29,999 |
The ranges are wide because "a website" can mean very different amounts of work. A 5-page site built on a ready layout might take a week. A 15-page site with custom design, written content and SEO can take a month. The next sections show exactly which choices move your price up or down.

Freelancer, agency or do-it-yourself?
Who builds your website changes the price more than anything else. Each option can be the right one, depending on your budget and how much the website matters to your sales.

| DIY builder | Freelancer | Web design agency | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Upfront cost | Low (monthly plan) | ₹5,000 to ₹30,000 | ₹8,000 to ₹1,00,000+ |
| Your time needed | High, you build it | Medium | Low |
| Design quality | Template only | Varies a lot | Consistent, reviewed |
| SEO and speed | Basic | Depends on the person | Usually included |
| Support after launch | Help articles | Depends on availability | Written support period |
| Best for | Testing an idea | Simple sites, tight budgets | Businesses that need leads |
A good freelancer can be excellent value. The risk is continuity: if they get busy or move on, you may be left with a website nobody else understands. With an agency you pay a little more for a team, a process and someone accountable after launch.
7 things that decide your website price
When two quotes look very different, the difference is almost always in these seven areas. Ask every agency how each one is handled in their price.
- Number of pages. Each page needs design, content and testing. A 5-page site and a 15-page site are very different jobs.
- Template or custom design. A ready layout adjusted to your brand is quicker and cheaper. A custom design made for your business costs more but stands out from competitors.
- Content writing. Many low quotes assume you will write every word yourself. Professional, SEO-friendly copy usually costs extra, often ₹500 to ₹1,000 a page.
- Features. Online booking, payments, logins, multi-language (Tamil and English), calculators and CRM connections each add work.
- Number of products. For online stores, uploading 20 products and 500 products are not the same job. Ask how many are included.
- SEO setup. Basic SEO means page titles and descriptions. Proper setup adds schema, speed tuning, Google Search Console and Analytics.
- Revisions and support. Check how many rounds of changes are included and how long free support lasts after launch.
Ask for a fixed written quote that lists pages, features, revisions and support. A quote that just says "website design: ₹15,000" makes it easy for extra charges to appear later.
Yearly costs after your website goes live
The design fee is paid once, but every website has small running costs. These are paid every year, usually directly to the provider. Here is what to budget for:
Swipe to see the full table
| Item | Approximate cost | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Domain name (.com or .in) | About ₹900 a year | Must be registered in your name |
| Web hosting | ₹2,700 to ₹9,600 a year | Shared hosting for small sites, cloud for busy stores |
| Business email | Often included with hosting | name@yourbusiness.com looks far more trustworthy |
| SSL certificate (https) | Usually free | Included with most good hosting today |
| Maintenance and updates | From ₹699 a month | Optional, but important for WordPress sites and stores |
| Payment gateway | About 2% per order | Only for online stores and online payments |
For a typical small business website, hosting, domain and email together come to roughly ₹3,500 to ₹4,500 a year. Busy online stores and web apps on cloud hosting need closer to ₹10,000 to ₹13,000 a year.
Many hosting plans are cheap in the first year and cost more on renewal. Always ask what the second-year price will be before you buy.
Hidden costs to watch for
Most of the "my website ended up costing double" stories we hear come from these charges. None of them are wrong in themselves. The problem is when they are not mentioned upfront.
- Domain in the agency's name. If the agency owns your domain, moving away later can be difficult or expensive. Your domain should always be in your name.
- Paid themes and plugins. Premium WordPress themes, booking plugins or page builders sometimes carry yearly licence fees.
- Stock photos. Images copied from Google can lead to copyright notices. Ask whether licensed or free-to-use images are included.
- Content not included. If you have to write all the text, the project often stalls for weeks.
- GST. If the agency is GST registered, 18% GST may be added to the quoted price. Ask whether the quote includes it.
- "Small changes" after launch. Some agencies charge for every edit once the site is live. Check what free support covers and for how long.
Three example budgets
To make the numbers real, here are three common kinds of projects in Chennai and roughly what they cost in the first year. These are examples to help you plan, not quotes.

Is a cheap website worth it?
Sometimes, yes. If you just need a simple online presence with your services, photos, location and phone number, a well-built ₹8,000 to ₹10,000 website can do the job well.
Where cheap websites cost you is in what you do not see: slow loading on mobile, no SEO setup, a domain you do not control, or no one to call when something breaks. A website that does not appear on Google or loses visitors in three seconds is expensive at any price.
A useful way to decide: if one extra customer a month would pay for your website within a year, it is worth investing in a site that is built to bring in enquiries, not just to exist.
How to get an accurate quote
You will get faster, more accurate and more comparable quotes if you share these details when you contact agencies:
- What your business does and who your customers are
- The main goal of the website: calls, WhatsApp enquiries, bookings or online sales
- Roughly how many pages, or a list of the sections you want
- Any must-have features, such as payments, booking or Tamil language
- Two or three websites you like, and what you like about them
- Whether you have a logo, photos and written content ready
- Your budget range and when you want to go live
When you get the quotes, compare them line by line: pages, design, content, features, SEO, revisions, support and yearly costs. Our guide on how to choose a web design company in Chennai lists the exact questions to ask.

Frequently asked questions
Is a ₹5,000 website good enough for my business?
It can be, for a very simple online presence. Check what is included: the number of pages, mobile design, a domain in your name, basic SEO and support after launch. If any of these are missing, the low price often costs more later.
How long does it take to build a website in Chennai?
A simple 5-page website takes about 7 days. A larger business website takes 2 to 3 weeks, and an online store usually 3 to 6 weeks, depending on features and how quickly content and feedback come in.
Do I have to pay for my website every year?
The design and development fee is paid once. The domain, hosting and business email renew every year, usually ₹3,500 to ₹4,500 a year for a small business website. Maintenance plans are optional.
Who should own the domain and hosting?
You should. Make sure the domain and hosting accounts are registered in your name and email, and that you receive all logins when the website is handed over.
Can I start with a small website and upgrade later?
Yes. Many businesses start with a Starter website and add pages, a blog or online payments as they grow. With us you only pay the difference when you upgrade a package.
